UPDATED SEASON 59
Real-life Brechin City FC were founded in 1906 through the merger of two local junior sides - Brechin Harp and Brechin Hearts - when a deputation from the Forfarshire Football Association met local sportsmen in the Temperance Hall in City Road, and after some persuasion, it was decided that a Senior club was advisable. The team was admitted to the Scottish league in 1923. Brechin currently play at Glebe Park, which has a capacity of 3,960 (1,519 seated) and is famous for the hedge that runs alongside one side of the pitch.
SESL
Season 58 had new manager at the helm of the club. Fran Morillo, who successfully promoted the team to the second division, has stepped down, making way for Simon Bijker to take over. Bijker, who has been absent from the scene for several years, inherits a strong team capable of competing with the division's top contenders for promotion.
Bijker has set a clear objective: “We aim to add more silverware to our trophy cabinet. By doing so, we hope to push the wooden spoons further into the background.” The fans are optimistic about the new season, but they understand that the journey will be challenging and lengthy.
May 2025
After taking a few seasons off from managing a team in the SESL, I was excited to return.
I currently reside in Lelystad, a charming town about 50km from Amsterdam. I have two wonderful children and a few pets who keep me company. My work takes me to Amsterdam once a week, where my office is located, but I primarily work from home the rest of the days.
Recently adjusting to single life, I am navigating this new chapter with optimism.
Apart from managing football teams, I have several passions. I enjoy playing soccer, writing about my favorite team, SC Heerenveen, and I am a proud season ticket holder, attending all of SC Heerenveen's home games.
Throughout my career in this SESL league, I have managed 970 games across various teams and divisions.
While I believe I have secured some silverware, the exact details are not firmly recorded.
I am eager to see what I can achieve with Brechin in season 59.
