Season 58
Not a good season just finished, as we fall back to Division Two. One problem was not having an out and out striker, something I hpe to have addressed for next season if not this. We're still low in T11 (13th) and T17 (12th) so have a fight on our hands again. The past few seasons I've spent all my cash on pre-season CP but decided to go back to my old tactic of buying just the 35 to give some flexibilty in the auctions. I'm undecided whether to carry on with ball control as the midfield is getting a bit old.
Season 57
Well we made it, surviving in Division One for the first time ever. We are no longer the team with the worst Division One record (East Stirlingshire for one have just two seasons here). Cecil Cup was the same as the previous season with 3 rounds, but the SESL Cup was our best for 6 seasons reaching the last 8 - and this time we tried to win. We've improved on last season starting 10th in T11 (4 of the 5 promoted teams are higher) and 14th in T17. I don't think we're as rich as last season but it's now time to build the team properly but try and stay around mid-table. Ball Control served us well last season and with only an age 5 up front I wouldn't be surprised to see more of the same.
Season 56
Wow, what a season that was. After a very ordinary start we fought our way up to around 7th place for most of the last two-thirds of the season. It wasn't until the very last game that we managed to get into 4th place, a result that gave us the over-achievers and manager of the season awards. The Accounts went pretty OK - we start this season with about 1200k more than last, but this is partly down to selling 10 TP for 800k, rather than using them on an apprentice costing an extra 300k. We did buy Jerry Armstrong for 600k but he secured promotion for us. Although we start much richer 1000k is going to be spent on a Bosman from Deveronvale. We start 12th= in T11 (pre-Bosman signings) and last in T17 so it's going to be a struggle to do what Alloa have never done: stay in Division One for more than one season.
Season 49
New Manager and I hope to turn around Alloa's SESL performance. Alloa have been in division 3 for 18 of the last 19 seasons and only made it to division 1 once, only to be relegated immediately. In the Cups they've had some success of late, quarter final of the Cecil in season 45 and also the quarter final of the SESL Cup in season 46, We start the season 11th= in T11 and 14th in T17 but a decent amount of cash compared to some others. I have some difficult decisions to make: the age 1 are fine, as is keeper, Parry, at 2/23 but the other age 2 are never going to be stars. I might spend half my CP on OTF.
Season 58: Tenth season as manager of Alloa after 16 seasons at Deveronvale.
Married to Elaine for 9 years with a nearly 19 year old (step) daughter and Jacob who is 8. I'm 65, due to retire in January, but don't feel anywhere like near to retiring - I can't afford to anyway. Apart from work and family, I spend my spare time mostly on the phone playing these games and every now and then try to find more on my ancestors. Other gaming is mainly Fortnite.. Jacob continues to surprise me with how clever he is, especially at Maths. And when he downloads a new game he just seems to know how to play without looking at instructioins.
Disneyland was not quite as expected. The drive there was nice and easy, I was worried about driving a right hand drive car on the right but didn't have any problems. The roads in France are much better than the UK. We expected rain (apparantly Disneyland in November is like Manchester when they have a test match) and it did rain a fair bit on Monday (our first day at the park) and pissed it down Tuesday. Wednesday was a bright sunny day, if a little cool (I wore thermals all week). Thursday it started snowing lightly then suddenly heavy with a wind. It looked great, as Disneyland is done up for Christmas in November, but snow in your eyes is no fun. Making a snowman with Jacob on holiday is not something I ever expected to do but a good memory. The snow was still there Friday but cleared. We hope to go back in a couple of years when it's warmer.
I live in a little known town called Ilkeston (the 3rd or 4th biggest town/city in Derbyshire). The Borough of Ilkeston was swallowed up into the larger Borough of Erewash where I've lived all but the first few months of my life. Erewash itself is a pretty nice place with lots of green space. I'd known for a long time that my mum's mum's maiden name was Disney and eventually, with somebody else starting me off, found a lot of my ancestors going back to my great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great grandfather Samuel Disney who was born in the 17th Century. One day I will visit Norton Disney where it all began.
I've managed several teams in the past: Beleriand in PSFA, Inverness and Deveronvale previously in SESL, Nottingham Forest in SaSo, Asteria Kromatos in MSWL and New England/Fall River in OASL where I'm back again with Dave Dowson's old team, Beleriand previously in SFLSL and A.C Sapone now,. I have a couple of teams in Al Sellers' United leagues (Ilkeston and Forest) . I am also in his and Max's Volleyball league which I'm loving.
