    About Annan Athletic

    Season 56 Update:

Annan Athletic Football Club are an association football club who compete in the Scottish Third Division. They are based in the town of Annan, Dumfries and Galloway, South Scotland. They play their home games at Galabank

Annan applied to join the Scottish Football League in 2000, when two new clubs were admitted, but lost out to Peterhead and Elgin City. Following the demise of local rivals Gretna in 2008, Annan applied along with four other clubs to replace them in the Third Division. They were the successful candidate, being chosen due to the standard of their facilities, ahead of Cove Rangers, Spartans, Preston Athletic and Edinburgh City.

Their first league match as a professional team ended in a 4-1 win over Cowdenbeath in the 2008/09 season. They finished 7th that season and 8th in the next season (however, they reached the semi-finals of the Scottish Challenge Cup). They were challenging for promotion to the Second Division in the 2010/11 season, their 3rd season in Scottish senior football. They finished 4th and qualified for the play-off final after a win over Alloa Athletic in play-off semi-finals. They played Albion Rovers in the two-legged final, however, they lost match 4-3 on aggregate (1-3,2-1), meaning that they missed out on promotion to the Second Division for the first time in their history.

    Season 56 update

Last season went to plan, we managed to stay in Div 2 which was the aim, was a bit strange at times as we skirted with the play-offs at some points and then a couple of games later if they didn't go well we could just have easily headed into the relegation play-offs, as it was in the end we finished smack bang in the middle.. I'll take that. The Cups were nothing to write home about again either but we did make the last 16 of both the SESL & the CECIL and that was enough to get our sponsorship payout so something at least. All in all, a solid but vanilla season with fair to middling team after a promotion.

So for this season, half decent team again so we'll aim to cement our Div 2 status and do as well as we can in the cups to bring in some cash to keep them cheeky skill levels up !  ...  think we lack suffiicent depth to get back to the big time sadly though ... but ya never know!! laugh

As for me, I'm 46 and live in Beverley with my wife Phionna & two sons Benj & Josh (who's now Managing in both SESL & Sanc!). The eldest is now learning to drive (my car!) and out more than he's in these days but enjoy watching Josh play still ... and I can still put them to the sword in a game of darts. Still fishing at the syndicate lake and the carp PBs are heading north each season which is great as its a great place to spend the little free time I have. I'm a scientist/microbiologist by trade, a supporter of Sheffield Utd (back in the prem ... but total disaster & I just hope the season doesn't hangover the team next season tbh as its been that bad!), a perenial maggot drowner/carp angler as mentioned and a lover of hoppy ale - IBU rules!
