It looked like an easy Saturday for the Fifers, with matches against the bottom two clubs.
We started with a visit to Kilmarnock. We had a significant shot chance advantage and soon took the lead. It was plain sailing really, 0-3 at half time, and 1-5 by the close. A goal for Scott Sherpherd keeps him in the Golden Boot hunt, but he's two behind Forfar's Rory MacLeod.
It was a different story for our home tie against Queen of the South. We still had a shot advantage, but not such a significant one, and after a goalless first half the visitors took the lead after 53 minutes. It looked as if they might sneak a victory but we managed to find an equaliser close to the end. With Peterhead also getting four points in the session, we retain an eight point lead.
Well, we're through to the SESL CUp last 32....
After a win and a loss ing the first two matches we managed two wins in the next two. Forfar did their usual trick of stalling in the first half, leaving me wishing that we'd taken the gamble and pressed. But we were 1-0 up at half time, and in the second half, when they switched to Long Ball, we had even more of an advantage and scored twice more to notch up a nice 3-1 win.
On Monday we faced Cowdenbeath who fielded a team with.a few weak links in their team. But they held us to 0-0 at half time and we were alittle concerned that we might not get the win we deserved. But we broke through in the 66th minute and added two more goals before the end to get a 3-0 win and a welcome captain's bonus.
With qualification certain, we faced Falkirk. We were much the stronger team but conceded a goal after 13 minutes and never got into the game. Despite outshooting them 11-3, 9-2 on target, we weren't able to equalise, and ended up unfortunate losers.
Neverthless, we finished top of our group and now face Stranraer (i think) in the last 32. A winnable match, I think....but we'll see...
