Well… that was a week of mixed emotions in Methil and beyond.
We kicked things off in the CECIL Cup with a hard-fought 1–1 draw away to East Stirlingshire. A solid draw on the road and a performance that suggested the lads had remembered which goal we were shooting at. Even better, we followed it up with a composed 2–0 win in the return fixture. Professional. Efficient. Almost suspiciously competent.
Then came Division 2 reality.
A narrow 2–1 defeat to Brechin City reminded us that football is has it's ups and downs. To their credit, the boys bounced back immediately with a 1–0 win over Dundee United. Not vintage COW, but gritty. The sort of win that wins leagues… or at least keeps us mid-table and dreaming.
Unfortunately, the cup giveth and the cup taketh away. A 1–0 loss to East Fife ended our recent momentum and proved that sometimes the football gods are just East Fife fans in disguise. Not that we epxected anyting from the tie, we were setup to not lose heavily and get some SL points dished out.
Summary:
Cup form: Confident and in control, a managed exit on the cards.
League form: Competitive.
Clean sheets: Encouraging.
Manager stress levels: Manageable… for now.
Plenty to build on. If we can combine our cup composure with our league resilience, the COW might yet charge.
Onward. 🐮
