What started as a hopeful home fixture for Queen of the South ended in disaster. Elgin City dominated from the start and crushed QOS with a 5-0 win, leaving the team shocked and coach Arnold Yzermans frustrated on the sidelines.
Elgin took control early. Miko Virtanen scored after just three minutes, and soon after, Kane Hester and Olly McDonald added more goals. By the 39th minute, Elgin led 5-0, with Hester scoring twice and Virtanen adding two more. Robby McCrorie had a terrible day in goal and was replaced at halftime by Angus Gunn, but the damage was already done.
QOS never recovered. The midfield was overwhelmed, the defense struggled, and the attack never threatened. Elgin’s pressure and sharp finishing exposed all of QOS’s weaknesses. The second half was quieter, but QOS still couldn’t create any real chances. Stephen McKenna and Archie Gemmill made some important blocks, but it wasn’t enough.
Kane Hester was the best player on the pitch, scoring twice and never stopping. Elgin’s wingers, Virtanen and McDonald, caused problems the whole match, while QOS could only hope to avoid an even bigger defeat.
Final score: QOS 0 - Elgin City 5. A harsh lesson for Queen of the South, who now need to fix their defense and tactics.
