Season 45 update (Aug 2024)
The Tricolores had a great season 43 where we ended up in 2nd place and earn direct promotion to Div-1!!!
But again we could not avoid relegation and we are back in Div-2... At least we did have a chance through the playoff, but it just wasn't meant to be.
So last season was just mant to be to try to avoid relegation but... WE WON A CUP!!!!!
After playing OLMEC games for very (very!) many years we actually won our first Cup!!!
This season will just be a celebration season... :)
Season 43 update (Oct 2023) (Summarized past seasons, was looking way too long)
The Tricolores had a decent season for a 2nd division team. And with that we have to face it: we are a Div-2 team.
We have spent in Div-1 only 14 of our 42 season life. And only one season of the last 10 seasons.
We do "think" that we are competitive in the Cups, but we never won a cup either...
The Tricolores did make it to 8 Cup semifinals, even if we never won a Cup, that sounds like an achievement for a Div-2 team.
This season we are not looking great roster-wise, resources are pretty low too. So we will focus on building up the teams resources and getting some youngsters seasoned. Not hoping for a good showing neither on the league nor on the cups...
Season 42 update (May 2023)
The Tricolores went back-to-back 11th place in Div-2, and that's out of 14 teams. So not good!
But at least this season we do have something to show for: we made it to the final of the SFLSL Cup!!! So that at least puts something on our (almost bare) trophy cabinet (Thank you for fixing it Colin!)
Season 41 update (Jan 2023)
First season back down in Div-2 and it was not a good one for the Tricolores...
Season 40 update (Jul 2022)
So the Division 1 stint was so short that we barely noticed that we were up there!
Season 39 update (Jan 2022)
From rock bottom, to promotion! After 6 long seasons in Div-2 the Montevideo Tricolores end the season in fantastic form to secure the 2nd place and direct promotion!
Season 38 update (Aug 2021)
Rock bottom, MT hit rock bottom last season. With the hopes of fighting for promotion we ended up in 14th place! Our worst showing ever...
Season 37 update (Mar 2021)
And the Tricolores go another season out of the Dowson Cup... We ended up in 10th place this time. A very bad showing for a team that hopes to spend more time in Div-1...
We made it to the semis of the Dowson Plate, at least that meant some extra income from the extra matches.
Season 36 update (Sep 2020)
The Montevideo Tricolores had their worst season ever. Even the 12th place in the SFLSL Cup could not make our worst showing in Div-2 look any better.
==== Season 35 ========================
Season 34 was yet another forgettable season for the Tricolores, where now in Div-2 we could not finish in the top-8 thus missing out on this season's McBride Cup (now very appropriately renamed to Dowson Cup!).
Season 45 (Aug 2024)
Things have been tough on our family front, but fortunately it's only financial. Been looking for a job for all of this year and it is proving quite challenging. At 56 and working in the IT world I'm fearing that my age has become a problem!
But we are happy right now to be all at home for the Summer. We got our 2nd kid now graduated from college and ready to move to NYC after the Summer!
(Don't tell anyone ;) but I took out of my resume the year that I graduated from the University (1992!) and my first couple of jobs, and I have noticed more traction with my job applications...!)
Season 43 (Oct 2023)
The Montevideo Tricolores is a team inspired by one of the great clubs in the world: Club Nacional de Fútbol. One of the 2 big teams in Uruguay. 3 times South American champions and those same 3 times winners of the Intercontinental Cup (now known as World Cup of clubs).
Of course all that glory is from a few years back (last intercontinental cup was won in 1988...).
That’s why most of our players’ names are real Nacional players.
So back to SFLSL, MT is one of the original teams going back even past season one of the current run (there was an older original SFLSL that goes way back when this league was run by it’s creator Mike Morton).
At the beginning of season 32 there was a problem with the system and all our data was lost! Quite the hit to lose all of our players history and these notes.
Season 42 (May 2023)
Connecticut, USA, 2023. Enjoying the "New England" area very much, we may have found our "forever" home in the Eastern forests of the state. We have now lived for over 2 years in an old house that was built the year that Connecticut became a state: 1788!
We continue to work on some renovations and they are going nicely even if slowly (I do most of the work while still working fulltime+ !).
Personally hitting a big milestone this year: lived as many years in the US as in Uruguay. This is a big deal for me, being quite the nationalist (for Uruguay!).
But we are settled for good in the US, our kids would never move to Uruguay and we are not willing to live too far from them... :)
Season 41 (Jan 2023)
Being a big football fan (I'm originally from Uruguay), we just came out of a huge year with the World Cup just played.
Dissapointing performance by Uruguay, yes, we think we were wronged, but we had the potential to have done so much better and we just waited untill it was too late to actually show up.
The final made up for a somewhat dull competition and I'm happy with Argentina winning the World Cup. We (Uruguayans) are very close culturally to Argentina, so it felt a bit like a victory for us. But we will regret it soon enough, we also have a huge rivalry and the Argentinians (mainly the "Porteños" from Buenos Aires) are known for being very obnoxious.
For Uruguay it is the end of a run for a group of great players, lead by Suarez and Cavani. We do have some great new talent coming after them, but these guys are the top 2 Uruguay goal-scorers of all time...
Season 40 (July 2022)
So while seemingly we are out of the very long pandemic, still life will be a bit different forever.
In some aspects for the better while some others not so much.
Now working to get in better shape to find a place to play football! (Yes, I'm almost too old for it but can't help it!)
Totally adapted to full-time at-home work, I really love it and would never go back to a job where I would need to go to the office at all.
It is interesting to think that I have quite a few co-workers that I have never met in person!
House renovations still going slow, working from home does not really give you a lot of extra free time...
New England has been unseasonably colder than normal so we have not yet gone to the beach for more than a few minutes...
Season 39 (January 2022)
Season after season now we find ourselves living our lifes with a pandemic that keep affecting our daily living.
Approaching the second full year of this virus that will not go away. Must say that this time, and with this latest variant, it does seem like we are on the verge of the end of this pandemic.
Still, life is good in this corner of the World for us, our family has stayed together and happy. We do miss our rest of the family that is far away in our home country, hoping to see them soon.
Personally, I'm getting to that age where my body is telling me that I should be done with playing football, but I can't wait to be back! (haven't played a game in 4 years!)
Season 38 (August 2021)
And the pandemic refuses to go away, just when we thought it was over, here (USA) we are going back to wearing masks even if you are vaccinated.
Even as I write this my daughter (vaccinated) is scheduled for a COVID test tomorrow, as she is not feeling great and cannot explain why...
It is being a nice Summer here in Connecticut, not as hot as usual but still allowing for some good beach outings (we are very close to Rhode Island and there are some great beaches there).
Continuing to mix house renovations (fixing our old house built in 1788!) with working from home (not going back to the office ever again!).
Kids growing, and they are not getting back this almost 2 years now that they sort-of lost...
Season 37 (March 2021)
While just typing that we are on the year 2021 sounds a lot like science fiction, the crazy times that we are living add even more to it.
Who would have thought that the whole World would go into a whole year of quarantine? We all now wear masks to go anywhere, keep our distance, and we do not greet anyone with any kind of contact! And we all got used to it now (I have not forgotten my mask in the car ever anymore...!)
So it does look like we are getting closer finally to some kind of going back to normal. Let's see how that looks. There are certain aspects of life that might be changing forever (and for good!), for example: in a lot of lines of work there will be no such thing as going to work to an office everyday anymore. I am in that category ( :D !)
A lot of us have lost loved ones, either directly or indirectly from the virus. That will be the hardest part of this that will be tough to "recover" from.
Season 36 (September 2020)
Wow! last update was April and here we are on the last day of September and still everybody is home.
Really having a great time with all the kids back home. Not really looking forward to when they leave again (maybe January?)
Personally I cannot make myself watch sports as much as I watched before, can't pin the reason but it is giving me more time to do evrything else...
Connecticut looking good this time of the year with the temperatures coming down and the leaves changing colors...
Season 35 (April 2020)
Originally from Uruguay but living in the US for over 24 years now.
Lived almost 20 years in Kentucky but now living in Connecticut. Quite a nice area here filled with nice old houses in a rocky forest and yet we are a bit over an hour from downtown New York City.
Married for over 26 years (!) and with 3 beautiful children that go from a girl that is finishing a post-graduate in London (where my wife is visiting right while I write this!), a boy that’s going to the university after the summer (in Boston but first year in Valencia (Spain)! (Coming to visit you Sergei!). And then we have “the” Benjamin, our very own 6 year old to keep us young! (Tell that to my knees...).
The COVID-19 situation definitely changed things for our family but we are very blessed that it has been a very good time for us. All our kids back home, one working from home, one attending university from home and the little one... well, we were already homeschooling him, so only the extra-curricular activities are halted for now. Very fortunate to be on the group of people that have been able to keep their jobs, and cando it from home. (Starting week 7 of quarantine as I write this!)
