    About Newton Heath LYR

SFLSL's Newton Heath LYR pays homage to the original name of current Premier League side Manchester United.

As a proud Geordie and Newcastle United supporter we did consider a renaming the club - but decided to give it our best go with this 'franchise' to see if we can complete the task of trying to get this club back to the top o' the league!

SEASON 46 UPDATE - Survival last season (even if it was a last gasp play-off) gives us a chance to continue re-build in the top-flight. The squad is starting to take shape and hopefully our defensive frailties have been addressed. However, this may have been at the expense of previously decent attacking options. The squad is definitely taking on a 'Geordie feel and whilst this coming season could be a difficult one, we're hopeful of improving on last time and aiming to retain our top flight status again!

    Coach's Bio: Les Lithgo

I am a rapidly aging married bloke (mid to late 50's now!) with two grown up 'children' and a 4 year old granddaughter. I live in the fabulous north east of England and support Newcastle United. I work as a Commercial Manager / Quantity Surveyor currently based in Teesside. Been playing in SESL for a good few years and never really found success easy to come by in these games... but the enjoyment is in taking part of course and am looking forward to seeing how we can take this side upwards and onwards!

SEASON 46 Update: Not much changed since last update. Still working and dreaming of retirement and longing for Newcastle United to win a domestic trophy! Little bit of a setback on road to full recovery health and fitness wise over the festive period, but at least life is still starting to feel nearer 'normal' again - even if it is at much a slower pace these days!
