SFLSL's Newton Heath LYR pays homage to the original name of current Premier League side Manchester United.
As a proud Geordie and Newcastle United supporter we did consider a renaming the club - but decided to give it our best go with this 'franchise' to see if we can complete the task of trying to get this club back to the top o' the league!
SEASON 45 UPDATE - Surprisingly we find ourselves back in the top-flight after coming up through the play-offs. The squad surpassed themselves last season and despite some obvious defensive frailties the attacking statistics were astounding. The squad still looks like it needs strengthening defensively and this coming season could be a difficult one. But we're hopeful of doing better than last time and are aiming to stay for longer than one season this time!
I am a rapidly aging married bloke (mid to late 50's now!) with two grown up 'children' and a 4 year old granddaughter. I live in the fabulous north east of England and support Newcastle United. I work as a Commercial Manager / Quantity Surveyor currently based in Teesside. Been playing in SESL for a good few years and never really found success easy to come by in these games... but the enjoyment is in taking part of course and am looking forward to seeing how we can take this side upwards and onwards!
SEASON 45 Update: Not much changed in our household recently. Still working and dreaming of retirement and longing for Newcastle United to win a domestic trophy! Still on road to full recovery health and fitness wise, but at least life is starting to feel nearer 'normal' again - even if it is at a slower pace these days!
