SFLSL's Newton Heath LYR pays homage to the original name of current Premier League side Manchester United.
As a proud Geordie and Newcastle United supporter we did consider a renaming the club - but decided to give it our best go with this 'franchise' to see if we can complete the task of trying to get this club back to the top o' the league!
SEASON 44 UPDATE - After a fantastic first season in charge (S42) gaining promotion and winning the title in the process, last season (43) was a washout resulting in relegation straight back down to the second tier. I feel like I let the club down, due to a bit of a health scare resulting in a trip to hospital in an ambulance, the resulting recuperation and rehab left a caretaker running the team throughout season 43... no blame apportioned for this though as the team wasn't really ready for the top flight. We still need to look at some team rebuilding for this season and don't expect too much - a season of consolidation ahead perhaps?
I am a rapidly aging married bloke (mid 50's) with two grown up 'children' and a 2 year old granddaughter. I live in the fabulous north east of England and support Newcastle United. I work as a Commercial Manager / Quantity Surveyor currently based in Teesside. Been playing in SESL for a good few years and never really found success easy to come by in these games... but the enjoyment is in taking part of course and am looking forward to seeing how we can take this side upwards and onwards!
SEASON 44 Update: As alluded to in the about section above a minor health scare over Winter 2023 has slowed pace down a little. All well now though and grateful to the NHS and family for their support over the past few months. Lots of things to look ahead to, daughter got engaged so a wedding to save for; granddaughter is so much fun and at an age where they are so adorable (three), mortgage free (at last), changed my car, new project coming up at work to get stuck in to and looking forward to arranging some sunshine holidays at some point later in the year!
