Season 45 Update:
Well what a season we just had. We are now a yo-yo team after another promotion. In the league, our campaign stuttered badly, nay very badly in the last few sessions but we did enough earlier in the season to hang on for another division 2 title. Pretty sure we also had a great run in a cup but memory isn’t as good as it used to be and finding seasonal history doesn’t fall into my key skill set.
Another clear out of stars and also rans, many of whom will unfortunately be remembered for that terrible relegation season. Keith Curle moves on the old people’s home and will be joined by, Paul Dickov; Stevie Lomas and Alan Hall meaning four out and our small squad will need to pick up an auction addition or three and the earlier the better. All four move on with our thanks and best wishes.
Joining the squad via the draft this season are experienced midfielder David Silva and a couple of rookies in winger Peter Barnes and utility man Bernardo Silva. All three join our small Division one squad, full of hope but particularly with the kids they have a lot of work to do to get themselves into a position where they can positively contribute. Scott Carson, Dave Watson and Gary Wray need to mature into their roles and deliver more than a few key performances.
As we enter Season 45, T11 puts us up to our oxtures (sp) in a very real relegation battle. T17 is a bit healthier but only a bit and we will need to again lean into that this season, if we have any chance of making a fist of the Div 1 race for survival. As ever we will have to rely on bargain basement additions during the season to strengthen both the T11 and the T17 but funds are thin on the ground.
Survival in the first division has to be our focus for Season 45, so the board have set the club only one target, being division 1 survival by any means possible. Now we have a younger squad the board have tasked the management with the target of securing a Division 1 standard T11 and T17, so we will be looking for some deals in the auctions and hoping to pick up some reasonably priced CP and TP.
Season 45 Update:
Here we go again fellow SFLSL managers!
Well my bus pass has arrived and after 12 years of being a house husband, I have been promoted to the life role of pensioner. I’m not up for “old” age pensioner just yet but that will probably kick in when the state pension starts arriving in 7 years time. But things at home have just got complicated as Mrs O has retired now too and boy does the house feel crowded during the day. I’m so used to my own company while the income tax payers are earning their crust but there’s no bluffing now on how busy I have been all day. 😜
The boys got us joint presents for my 60th and the boss’s retirement of tickets to the Yankees series in New York, earlier this month. So we begrudgingly booked flights and accommodation and packed our Blue Jays gear and the day after Mrs O officially retired we headed to NYC for a 9 day break/celebration. The three games series came at the end our our time there, so we did some sight seeing, far too much shopping for me and grabbed a show before turning our attentions to the Blue Jays. And what a start. We won the first game of the series but as they say, it’s the hope that kills you with the Yankees turning round a 2 to 1 series win. Thank goodness football is back and the American football season is rapidly approaching Cause the Jays are not much short of rubbish this season.
My three sons continue to enjoy their lot and I’m still the looker-afterer of my three fantastic grand-daughters, Emma; Jessica and Isabella. Following Jessica’s autism diagnosis she is thriving now since her dedicated classroom assistant was appointed. Isabella has gone through P2 and announced she has trimmed back to just one boyfriend. Emma continues to play the dreaded teenager role but memory tells me they eventually work their way through it and return to the pleasantries of full family membership.
Enjoy your season everyone. We, at Lisburn City, are in transition …………………….. again, so, as ever, please be gentle. 😜
