Season 48 Update:
Hello! Season 47 was quite the rollercoaster, with the team fighting tooth and nail to stay afloat from the very beginning. To be honest, we might have been a bit lucky towards the end of the season, which could be seen as a slight step back from the previous season. But we did manage to survive, thanks to a promotion/relegation play-off.
We were always in the play-off zone, and only a few points away from automatic relegation at the end. We were very fortunate, as our play-off opponents seemed caught off guard that they had a winner-takes-all game to play.
Alan Murphy, Tommy McIlroy, Kalvin Phillips and Ray Ranson all retired, and we are grateful and wishing them all the best in their future endeavours.
For the upcoming season, we drafted Nicolás Otamendi (Sweeper/Defender), Tommy McCracken (Defender) and Johnny Crossan (Midfielder/Attacker). We are all excited to see what each of them brings to the club and hope they have a long and successful City career. However, we need to keep an eye out for one or two more players during the season. Scott Carson, Dave Watson, Gary Wray and now Phil McDonagh are the backbone of the team this season, so with Scott, Dave and Gary all approaching retirement, we need to see some of the new youngsters make an early big impact.
As we enter Season 48, T11 is looking grim, but T17 gives us a bit of hope. With the challenging T11 picking our battles, this season will be tough but crucial if we want to avoid relegation. As always, we will need to rely on some bargain additions during the season, but as usual, we are a bit short on funds.
Survival in the big league is our top priority again, so the board has set the club only one target: Division 1 survival but let’s see if we can do it without the pressure of a play-off. We really need to figure out how to develop Division 1-standard T11 and T17 to escape this seasonal fear of relegation. We will be keeping an eye out for some smart deals in the auctions and hoping to pick up some reasonably priced CP and TP.

Season 48 Update:
Hello, fellow SFLSL managers! Just a friendly reminder, aimed at those like me with memory challenges, that it’s season 48.
I’ve finally settled into my sixties, and my ‘retired’ Mrs O is still working a solid 50 hours a week on the bank at the local hospital. It’s quite a change from her 28 hours a week as a part-time employee.
My chess adventure, like most new hobbies, has fizzled out. I think it might be because my attention span is just not up to it! But hey, the moss battle in the garden is still going strong. The lawn is looking healthier as winter approaches, but the moss keeps creeping back in. There are lots of trees behind the garden, and we have a hedge that blocks direct sunlight from about a quarter of my little lawn, which seems to help the moss. But I haven’t given up on this one yet… for now.
This season, my ‘teams’ are a bit of a mixed bag. The Blue Jays gave us a World Series Final season, which was absolutely thrilling. City are still rebuilding, but the Raiders are really testing my patience. 🥴
2025 was an exceptional holiday year as we started our joint pensioner lives, with trips to Washington and Baltimore for the baseball; camping in Spain with Number 2 and his family; a cruise to celebrate Mrs O’s 60th and our annual two weeks relaxing in the sunshine of Tenerife. Tenerife is all we have set for 2026, but 2025 was an exceptional holiday year. And yes, we truly appreciate how lucky we are.
I still get to take care of my three amazing granddaughters, Emma, Jessica and Isabella. Emma is diving into her O’Levels or whatever they’re called these days, Jess has been officially diagnosed with ADHD, which, along with her Autism, has helped her get a tablet that has really calmed her at school. We’re seeing big improvements in her attention span and her school performance. Speaking of performance, Izzy’s big news is that she now attends a performing arts club on Saturdays. She’s only 8 years old, but she absolutely loves being on stage.
I hope you are all doing well! Have a great season, everyone! As always, please be kind to us at Lisburn City, as we are going through a bit of a transition again, honestly!
