    About Philadelphia Union

On May 11, 2009, "Philadelphia Union" was officially announced as the team's name during a ceremony held at Philadelphia's City Hall.
This name alludes to the Union of the Thirteen Colonies, of which Philadelphia was the first capital. The team's name was chosen following a fan poll held between January 19, 2009 and February 6, 2009.
Philadelphia Union is based in the Philadelphia suburb of Chester, Pennsylvania.
Starting in 2010, the team will play its home matches at Union Field at Chester, a soccer- specific stadium located on the banks of the Delaware River.
Philadelphia Union's colors are navy blue and gold, representing the primary colors of the Continental Army's uniforms during the American Revolutionary War.
The team's primary logo is circular, symbolizing unity. Its thirteen gold stars represent the original Thirteen Colonies, while the shield's contour derives from the Philadelphia coat of arms.
The rattlesnake pays homage to a political cartoon by Benjamin Franklin that was featured in the 1754 Pennsylvania gazette.

    Season 29

We bring in 2 Wingers Roman Yamechuck and Quinn Sullivan, Defender Alvas Powell and Goalkeeper Halton Leite all from Roxborough, which we hope will enable us to change our style of play.Oravec will Captain the side this season. Well a tough season and we finished 7th winning 10,drawing 7 ,losing 9 ,scoring 53 and conceding 45 amassing 37 points. Most matches played 24 by Jorgenson and Moseley with 24,most minutes by Jorgensen with 1710,top goalscorer with 19 was Radonic, bad boy with 20 dp's was Sullivan and most MOM's with 4 was Radonic.

    Season 30

We bring in DF Nathan  Hamiel, DM Anthony Sorensen, MF Brandon Craig and FW Julian Carranza from our youth feeder team,Oravec will again captain the side this season.

We start the season with a T11 of 23.9(joint 4th in division) and a T17 of 21.8 (7th in division) so are hopeful of a good showing this season.

We bring in experienced SW Sam Stejskal from New York hoping he will add some muscle and depth to our defence. Well we finished with a T11 of 29.1(4th in division) and a T17 of 25.2(joint 3rd in division) ,but we won the league by 14 points and are Champions for the 1st time. Our style of play and how we developed our front men seemed to go under the radar and we scored over 100 goals.we won 23 drew 6 and lost 5 scoring 103 conceding 40 and amassing 75 points. Most matches played was Carranza with 33,most minutes played 2115 shared by Kalajdzic and Powell, bad boy with 30 dp's was Sullivan, top goalscorer with 25 was Radonic which also topped the league and Carranza was the top youth goalscorer (what a front line) and most MOM's was Liete with 9.A special mention for Captain Fantastic aka Matej Oravec who became the all time leading capped Union player with 162 appearances and what a brilliant job he has done.

We started the season slowly and went out of the Al Sellers cup in the group stage. In the Dave Dowson shield we got to the final but were beaten 2-0 by Stephen 's Houston Dynamos in a free flowing early ball extravaganza .

    Season 31

We bring in GK Kenneth Vermeer, SD Ruben Gabrielsom and DF Abasa Amemeyow from our feeder club Roxborough Indians as we start to rebuild from the back.

We brought in MF Andre's Perea to strengthen the squad.

We start the campaign with a T11 of 25.1(3rd in division) and a T17 of 22.6(joint3rd in division) so it looks like it could be another good season.Matej Oravec will again captain the side this season.

Well we didn't live up to expectations and could only finish 4th, winning 6,drawing 1,losing 7,scoring 21,conceding 18 amassing 19 points,in the cups we went out to Minnesota in the al Sellers and went out to Houston on penalties in the Dave Dowson.

    Season 32

We bring in DM Nikola Vlasic,FW Anonio Sarabina and FW Dawid Kownacki from our feeder team Roxborough Indians to bolster our ranks.

We start the season with a T11 of 24.5 (4th in division) and a T17 of 22.1 (4th in division) so will be another hard season ahead Helton Liete will Captain the side this season. We strengthen the squad early on with signings SD Isiah Leflore,DF Olwethu Mahonya  and MF Jose Martinez, this should give us good balance and squad rotation. We finished the season with a T11 of 28.2(2nd in division) and a T17 of 25.3(2nd in division)so happy with a squad building season, this should hopefully set us up for next season.Matej Oravec played his final game for the union ,the most capped player ever with 205 appearances over 7 good seasons ,he will take up an assistant coaching role at Roxborough Indians next season developing our youth players for the future. We finished with a T11 of 28.3 (joint 3rd in division) and a T17 of 25.4(2nd in division) but we did it and became league Champions. Played 21 won 12 drew 5 lost 4 scoring 43 conceding 15 amassing 41 points.Carranza took golden boot with 12 goals and Sarabina young boot with 9 goals, moms with 7 went to Liete, most matches played Kownacki with all 21and 1440 minutes played. In the cups we went out of the Al Sellers cup to CAR on penalties and in the Dave Dowson shield out to SEA.

    Season 33 updates

We bring in GK Holden Trent,DF Olwethu Mokhayana and MA Joaquin Torres to bolster the squad.Julian Carranza will Captain the side this season.New tactics are in order as we have no wingers this season,so thinking caps are on.

    Coach's Bio: Rob Lye

    Updated April 2024

born and bred in Bridgwater,Somerset, now living in Oswestry,Shropshire with my other half Sharon and my two daughters Alix and Beth. Been a lifelong Bristol Rovers fan watching them many times as one of the Gas,but alas promotion to division 1on the last day of the season with that 7-0 win home to Scunthorpe, but not confident after Joey Barton sacked and no new manager yet at the helm also support and watch The New Saints who are based in Oswestry about a mile from home and play in the  welsh premier league and  set a new european record for successive wins taking the record off Ajax.Going well this season and into the semi finals of the scottish challenge cup weird i know but with top 4 welsh top 4 irish and the lower levels of the scottish leagues involved, all good for football.Other pastimes when not supporting the saints are sea fishing and spending time with the family in north wales on the coast, and drinking proper cider (west country folk will know what i mean)

Currently managing The New Saints  in the sflsl division 1 ,now managing Ross County in the 3rd  division after relegation last season ,and finally Roxborough Indians in the 4th division  after relegation last season of the OASL which is Phillys feeder team , 3 good trainees come out of it and hopefully a better season ahead ,well we only gone and done it Philadelphia Union ,Champions for the 2nd time.

love these leagues and the characters you meet along the way, hopefully can justify my place at philly in the coming seasons
