SANCTUARY FOOTBALL LEAGUE

NEXT:

SEASON 47 - OFF and RUNNING

We will continue season 47 with 28 teams. 14 teams in each division.

The SFLSL Cup has reduced to 7 groups. The top 2 in each group will go through automatically and next two 'best' teams will also qualify for the knockout rounds. Usual way of deciding this, points, goal difference, goals 'for' then the old flip of a coin. That will give us 16 teams in round 2.

The Dowson Cup will have 16 teams with a two leg first round (home and away). The 16 teams will consist of the teams that finished 8th or better in each of the two divisions in Season 46. One off neutral games thereafter.

Dowson Plate has the remaining 12 teams competing and round one will consist of 4 round robins. Each team will play two matches against two different teams at neutral venues. The best 2 out of each group of 3 with progress to round 2.

As ever, Div 2 teams will have 3 TP manually added however before that get CP and TP purchased in the usual manner via preseason (I will open this towards the end of the draft) and you can then buy extra TP by donating using the link below. This is optional but helps with the costs of running this league.

HISTORY

United was a postal football game invented by Alan Parr and developed by Al Sellers into a game played on the internet. Al created MSWL (make sure wayne league) and a Web page which just listed League tables, General information, Rules etc. There was a link to Zip files, where you could get your squad and match reports/fixtures. You listed your match orders on a notepad file (orders explained in rules). You then Zipped up your orders and sent the zip file to Al. When the matches were played, results were available in a zip file which you got from the web page.

Al then made the Match Engine available to other people who wanted to set up their own leagues, and this was done by several people, including Mark Creasey (SESL) and Mike Morton (SFLSL), and they ran their leagues using the same methods as MSWL. During this period the new Commish added some features to the game such as Bosman, Max SL , Weather, Real ages , Youth League.
After approx 2 years Al announced he would host a Web Site (what you see today) but would only permit 1 extra new feature in each League... and the web site was created ..at this time Dave Dowson joined ... and a while later Adam Meney. Moving on a few years later Al announced that he could no longer host all these leagues and gave each league 6 months to sort out their own host.

Mark got Graham McDermott to organise this and he created our own web site for SESL/SFLSL/OASL/Manager. This did not last long and we ended up with a server in Dave's house, but again after several seasons it was decided to use a professional server and Mark sourced an internet server (which we have today).
